We are as excited about Drupal 8 as you are, so we thought we’d spin up the latest alpha release (D8A12) on the Pantheon platform so you could get your hands on it. Spinning up a D8 site is just as easy as spinning up any Drupal site on Pantheon, but just in case you need a refresher, here’s how it’s done:

First, point your browser to the Drupal 8 product spin up page, here:http://getpantheon.com/D8.

You’ll be asked to create a free Pantheon account (note: if you are already a Pantheon user, you will be taken to the next screen):

Now you are ready to give your site a name:

On the right hand side, put in a human readable name for your awesome site. The Site Development url will automatically be generated. Click Create Site.

That’s it. After the a few seconds of backend chugging, you will get a confirmation that your site is ready. You have the option to go straight into the Pantheon Dashboard amazingness, but you’re here for Drupal 8, so click the button on the left, Visit Your Site.

The next screens should look really familiar, just fill out the appropriate fields and click Save and Continue:

At this point, we understand you want to take some time to kick the tires on D8. But, when you are ready to look under the hood, log into your Pantheon dashboard by going to https://dashboard.getpantheon.com. For a great walkthrough of the Pantheon Dashboard and Workflow, seehttp://helpdesk.getpantheon.com/customer/portal/articles/383609.

We hope you are loving having access to D8, a couple of disclaimers, though:

  • 1) Drupal 8 is still in Alpha, as such there’s no “official” support for it (but you can contribute to the D8 on Pantheon discussion here: https://github.com/pantheon-systems/drops-8/issues?state=open).
  • 2) We will make the core updates available as soon as we can after they are released, but remember, this is an Alpha so we have a little extra work to do making sure the updates don’t break anything important.
  • 3) At this point, you can’t take your site Live. But you have full access to your Development and Test environments (see that article above if these distinctions aren’t clear).

We hope you enjoy playing with D8 as much as we have. Big things are coming to Drupal and to Pantheon.
